Mr. Jeff Christopherson

Community opened the 2025 postseason with a 9-0 win over No. 7 seed Decatur MacArthur/Eisenhower Coop on Oct. 20, with the win the No. 2-seeded Ironmen advance to Friday’s IHSA Class 3A regional final against Peoria Notre Dame.

Community needed only a half of action to advance to the Oct. 24 regional championship in Moline, scoring nine first-half goals to trigger the IHSA state tournament mercy rule, which ends a match when a team leads by nine at the start of or any time after the second half.

Senior forward Kyle Hatcher opened the scoring for the Iron at the 8:24 mark of the match, finding the back of the net from 25 feet outside the box.

Logan Lelm scored twice—his 18th and 19th of the season—becoming the Iron’s leading scorer in the process.

Giovanni Hurtado added two—while Dhruv Joshi, Fabian Lopez, Lucas Frank and Joyce Lubika each finished with one.

Decatur did not register a shot, starting goalkeeper Kai White said.

With the win, Community moved to 16-3-4 overall, stretching the team’s lossless streak to nine.

When the Iron take the pitch against Peoria Notre Dame, who advanced after beating Moline 3-2, Community will be looking for a third straight regional title—and redemption, White said.

The teams tied 2-2 earlier this season, a draw that resulted in each earning a share of the Big 12 Conference title with a 9-0-1 record in league play.

The 15-3-3 Irish, White said, are “tough,” but the Iron “are ready to make a good playoff run.”
