The Ironmen clinched their second consecutive 3A Regional Championship with a 1-0 victory over the East Moline United Township Panthers on Oct. 26.

With under two minutes to play in the first half of Saturday’s match, junior Joyce Lubika delivered a decisive assist to Believe Avida, who netted the go-ahead goal. Avida leads the Iron in scoring with 18th goals. The assist was Lubika’s 10th on the season.

With the win, Community advances to the Alton Sectional Semifinals, traveling to Galesburg Tuesday to face the top-seeded Moline Maroons.

The 18-2 Maroons, ranked 10th in the state, will face Community again after claiming a 2-1 win over the Iron in their first meeting this season on Oct. 5.

Moline has outscored opponents 82-18 this season, with their two losses coming in tightly-contested, one-goal games. The Maroons fell 4-3 in their  season opener against ninth-ranked Dunlap (19-1-2) and a suffered a 1-0 defeat to Alleman (15-6-1) in early October.

Tuesday’s showdown serves as a rematch of last year’s postseason, where the Maroons ended the Iron’s season in the final seconds of the game’s second overtime period.

The Ironmen aim to turn the tables this year and secure a spot in Friday’s Sectional Championship against the winner of Belleville West and Edwardsville.

The Ironmen take the pitch at Galesburg High School at 7 p.m.
