Boys cross country: Trio leads team to 2 victories ahead of Intercity

The trio of Joey Yaros (’25), AJ Ince (’26) and Jack Thomas (’24) have led the Ironmen cross country team to two team victories and a 2nd place finish this season. 

In the opening meet of the season, the NCHS Co-Ed Open, on Sep. 2 the team took 2nd, finishing behind El Paso Gridley. Community posted three top 10 finishes with Yaros finishing 3rd (16:44), Ince 8th (17:04)  and Thomas 9th (17:11).

The Ironmen notched a one point victory over Mahomet-Seymour at the 54th Lee Halberg Lanphier Invite on Sep. 10 for their first team win of the year.  Yaros and Thomas led the team with 5th and 7th place finishes in the 3-mile race.

The boys earned their second team win in Decatur on Sep. 15, finishing five points ahead of Taylorville. Yaros, Ince and Thomas finished 4th, 5th, and 6th for the Ironmen.

Community races next on Thursday in the Intercity meet at Maxwell Park. Last season, the Ironmen finished 2nd behind U-High with first place decided by a tie breaker

Anna Dunne is a senior at Normal Community who plays volleyball and runs track. She is a member of Student Council, Key Club, and Class Board. This is her second year with Inkspot, and she is currently a senior staff reporter. I love to travel and meet new people, Colorado being my favorite place to visit. I hope to one day live in the city with lots of dogs.
