Athlete of the Week: Tyson Tucci

Freshman Season: Tucci competed at the State meet in the 200 and 500-Yard Freestyle as well as the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

Sophomore Season: Tucci qualified for State in the 200 and 500-Yard Freestyle. He finished 7th in the 500.

Junior Season: While the IHSA postseason was cancelled, Tucci helped lead his team to first place at the Intercity and Big 12 meets.

Pre-Race Routine: Getting in the “right mindset” and stretching a lot.

Favorite Moment of Career: An overnight trip for a meet in East Moline Tucci’s sophomore year.

Biggest Strength and Challenge: The mental aspect of swimming is Tucci’s biggest challenge, but staying mentally strong is also what sets him apart from other swimmers.

Post-Grad Plans: Tucci is unsure if he will swim in college. He plans to attend a 4-year university to study accounting.

Source of Inspiration: Seeing his brother Trevor’s name on banners inside the Community pool inspires Tyson to swim his best. Trevor currently swims for Olivet Nazarene.

Favorite Subject: Accounting

Favorite Pro Athlete: Devin Booker

Other Activities: Key Club, Interact Club, and volunteering in the local area.

What’s Next: Tucci and the Boys Swimming and Diving team travel to Macomb for their first meet December 4 before a home meet on December 7, which is Senior Night.

This is his second year working with the Inkspot, where he is a senior staff reporter. A random fact about me is that my front tooth has been broken five different times.
