Athlete of the Week: Paris Wills

Athlete+of+the+Week%3A+Paris+Wills

Pre-race Routine: Before races, Paris likes to stay in motion, mentally preparing herself and focusing on the different phases of the race (kick, turn, start, etc.)

Favorite Moment of Career: Finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle at the IHSA Sectionals in 2020, with a time of 5:16.38, was a long awaited moment for Wills. Wills placed 2nd at the competition as a freshman by less than a second and missed Sectionals as a sophomore due to a torn ACL.

Meets Most Looking Forward to: Intercity at NCHS on Oct. 7 and IHSA Sectionals on Nov. 6.

Hardest Part of Swimming: The fact that you won’t swim your best every single meet, Wills said. Accepting that even the best swimmers have off days is important so that you can bounce back after a tough race.

Postgrad Plans: Wills intends to major in Biochemistry and continue swimming in college. She is considering Grove City, St. Norbert, and Indiana Wesleyan.

Favorite Book: “An Ember in the Ashes”

Favorite Swimmer: Katie Ledecky

Other Activities: Band, Choir, and French Club
