Athlete of the Week: Chris Taylor

Team Stats: Ironmen are seeded third in the 7A IHSA State Playoffs. An undefeated regular season led to a Big 12 Championship.

Individual Stats: Taylor plays both sides of the ball as a running back and a cornerback. He has scored four touchdowns over the last two games.

Favorite Subject: Math

Other Activities: Taylor participates in track & field, competing in the high jump at the State Meet last season.

Favorite Athlete: Deion Sanders

Biggest Strength as a Football Player: Being coachable. “When an athlete is coachable and he is good it can really take him far in life,” Taylor said.

College Recruitment: Taylor recently received an offer to play football from Illinois State. Miami (OH), Jackson State and Purdue have also expressed interest.

Favorite Moment of Career: Defeating Peoria Notre Dame 29-22 this season. Taylor ran for a touchdown and intercepted two passes in the comeback win.

Biggest Role Model: “My mom because she had breast cancer last year and she really showed me what a fighter is off the field. . . In football, every play you got to fight like I saw my mom fight for her life last year.”

Pre-Game Routine: “Throw on some music . . . distance myself for 5-10 minutes to think about the game, think about practice and then I’m ready to go.”

What’s Next? Taylor and the Ironmen travel to Algonquin to take on Jacobs in round 2 of the 7A IHSA State Playoffs

This is his second year working with the Inkspot, where he is a senior staff reporter. A random fact about me is that my front tooth has been broken five different times.
