Freshmen help pace Iron to sectional berth

Community’s girls cross-country team advanced to the IHSA Class 3A Normal Community Sectional at Maxwell Park on Nov. 1 after finishing fourth at the Class 3A Belleville West Regional on Oct. 25.

Freshman Erin Schierer led Community with a 17th-place finish in 18:58.70.

Community’s pack tightened behind Schierer, with a split of 53.70 seconds separating the team’s first and fifth runners.

Junior Emma Pollitt was 22nd in 19:31.40, followed by freshmen Mackenzie Wayne (25th, 19:42.20) and Taylor Beal (29th, 19:50.50). 

Senior Audra Wolf rounded out the scoring in 31st at 19:52.40.

Community totaled 121 points, trailing Edwardsville (33), O’Fallon (55) and Pekin (68), and edging Quincy by two points.

The Ironmen will race the Normal Sectional at 10 a.m. Nov. 1 at Maxwell Park.

The top seven teams at sectionals will advance to the IHSA State Finals at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Nov. 8, along with the first 10 individuals not on those teams.
