Sharp, Avida goals propel Ironmen to IHSA 3A Regional Final soccer showdown

The Ironmen advance to Saturday’s IHSA 3A Regional finals, defeating the Minooka Indians 2-1 in Oct. 22’s semifinal match.

Cassius Sharp put Community on the board with 35:54 left to play in the first half of Tuesday’s game, netting his seventh goal of the year.

The Indians knotted the score at 1-1 with just under seven minutes into the second half.

Believe Avida scored the winning goal for the Ironmen with 28 minutes to play. The junior leads the Iron this season with 17 goals.

The Ironmen host East Moline’s United Township Panthers on Oct. 26, kicking off at 11 a.m.

The Panthers enter the contest 15-4-1 on the year, coming off a 9-0 victory over Decatur Eisenhower.

The winner of Saturday’s match moves on to Oct. 29’s sectional round in Alton, facing the winner of tonight’s Moline/Rock Island contest.
