Iron soccer make striking start to season: 3-0 after shutout streak

Junior goalie Erica Elofson has held opponents scoreless after three matches this season. The Iron face defending 1A State champs U-High on the road in their second Intercity contest Wednesday.

Iron soccer are off to a 3-0 start, winning each match by shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Erica Elofson has yet to conceed a goal, recording 11 saves on the season.

In March 21’s, 1-0 victory over Chatham Glenwood, Elofson recorded a season-high seven saves.

Freshman Campbell Damery recorded the game-winner for the Iron, with the assist from Rayna Powers, to hand Chatham Glenwood their first loss of the season.

Powers, despite a preseason injury, has had a strong start to the 2024 season, as her four goals share a spot atop the state sheet with Dhruthi Joshi.

Powers netted three of her goals in the team’s 6-0 win over Central Catholic on March 18.

In the contest, midfielder Emma Riechert recorded three assists. Riechert is leading the team with five on the season.

Joshi scored two of her goals in 5-0 season-opening win over Metamora and two against the Saints.

The win over Central Catholic puts Community 1-0 in Intercity action.

The Iron take on defending Class 1A State champions the U-High Pioneers on the road March 27 at 4:30 p.m.

Zachary Knox-Doyle is a junior at Normal Community High School and plays on the school's tennis team. He is a Senior Staff Reporter at the Inkspot. One of my biggest inspirations is Candace Parker because of her insane skills on the basketball court, never back down attitude and the work she's done for ESPN behind the mic. I am most comfortable and content when I'm playing tennis and basketball simply for the love of the sport.
