Mr. Jeff Christopherson
The Iron improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big 12 Conference play with a decisive 57-6 road victory over Champaign Central on Sept. 1.

The Ironmen dominated the first half of Friday’s 57-6 win over Champaign Central, leading the Maroons 49-0 at halftime.

Community improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in Big 12 Conference play and extended their winning streak against the Maroons to 18 games, a record that dates back to 2002.

The Iron took a 7-0 lead on the game’s third play when linebacker Brady Augstin recorded his second pick-six of the season.

Tommy Davis extended Community’s lead to 14-0 mid-way through the first quarter with a four-yard touchdown run, his third rushing touchdown of the season.

Wideout Mar’Quan Gary improved upon his Week One offensive production– running for a score and hauling in two touchdown catches.

Gary’s 18-yard touchdown run put the Community lead at 21 with 5:33 to play in the first.

With 9:33 to play in the second quarter, the Iron would increase their advantage to 28 with a six-yard touchdown run from A.J. Montoya, his first of the season.

A Cooper Caraway interception, the Maroon’s third turnover on the night, would set up a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Beaty to Gary, giving Community a 35-0 lead.

With 2:55 left in the half, Beaty would find tight end Dexter Niekamp for a 12-yard touchdown.

But Beaty wasn’t done.

The junior quarterback connected with Gary again on a 36-yard touchdown score, giving the Iron a 49-0 advantage at the half.

Gary would finish the night with three scores, bringing the 6’1” junior’s tally to five on the season.

Community would open the second half with a 13-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Lucas Drengwitz on a designed run.

Running back Keyshon Coleman converted the two-point attempt to to extend the Iron lead to 57-0.

The Maroon’s lone touchdown came late in the fourth quarter on a 25-yard pass.

The Iron offense would finish the night with 319 total yards, 153 in the passing game and 166 on the ground.

Defensively, Community held the Maroons to five first downs in the contest, with Champagne failing to convert on each of their eight third-down attempts.

Community travels to Normal West on Friday, taking on the 2-0 Wildcats in Conference play.
