Ironmen look to exorcize Blue Devils in IHSA Sectional Final

Community (33-1) takes on three-seed Quincy Blue Devils (27-5) in the IHSA Sectional Final on Friday, March 4 at Collinsville High School, following Tuesday’s Sectional Semifinal win over the Moline Maroons.

The Ironmen, ranked third in the state by MaxPreps, face an unfamiliar opponent in Quincy as the two teams haven’t met in the last decade.

Community and Quincy shared three opponents in Moline (28-5), Collinsville (26-6), and Rock Island (22-9) this season.

The Blue Devils split their season series against Moline and Collinsville at 1-1 apiece and went 2-0 against Rock Island.

After falling to the Collinsville Kahoks 49-34 in late December, 34 points was enough for the Blue Devils to knock off the Kahok’s in Tuesday’s rematch.

Quincy eliminated the one-seeded Kahoks 34-32 on Collinsville’s home court.

The Blue Devils’ two 34 point showings were an offensive season-low, but defensively their 32 points-allowed was the team’s second-lowest all year.

In Community’s lone matchup against Collinsville, the Iron toppled the Kahoks by a score of 61-44.

The Ironmen’s two games against Moline resulted in 11 and 17-point victories over the Maroons, most recently in the Sectional Semis.

The home game against Rock Island was a closer game for the Iron, with Community edging the Rocks 67-60. The win came after Community’s sole loss on the season, falling by two to Champaign Centennial in early December.

With a win on Friday, Community will not have to travel far, as Monday, March 7’s IHSA Super-Sectional tips-off at Illinois State’s Redbird Arena.

The winner of the Community-Quincy match faces the Oswego Sectional’s victor — either one-seed Oswego East (33-1) or two-seed Bolingbrook (26-6).
