The girls basketball team celebrated a win and the team’s two seniors last Tuesday night, defeating the Springfield Southeast Spartans 67-44.
While Karleigh Creasey and Paige Walker were recognized before the game, a trio of sophomores led the Lady Iron to the team’s 19th victory.
Giana Rawlings topped the stat sheet with 23 points, with Olivia Corson contributing 13 and Ali Ince scoring 10.
21 of Rawling’s points came from beyond the arc, making seven 3-pointers in the game. The Lady Iron combined to make 13 3s in the contest.
With a roster consisting mainly of sophomores, Head Coach Dave Feeney doesn’t see the team’s lack of seniors as an issue.
Creasey and Walker “stand for a lot of the ideals that we want our players to represent,” Feeney said, “as students, as people, and then as athletes.”
If “they’re the right two… I think it works out pretty well,” Feeney said. Especially “when they’re two kids of that caliber.”
The 19-6 Lady Iron look to snap a two-game losing streak when they take on Danville in tonight’s 7:30 p.m. matchup at home.
