JV soccer team falls short at Edwardsville

The NCHS junior varsity soccer team was shutout in their lose at Edwardsville 4-0 on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Normal Community suffered just their 1st lost against a very tough Edwardsville squad. Normal’s jv season record stand at 6-1-2, and 3-0-2 in the Big 12 conference.

Normal’s backup goalie let in 3 Tiger goals in the first half, and 1 in the second. The soccer team felt the loss of their starting goalie Matthew Wells (10) was out of this game because of a concussion.

“We need to get better to be able to beat the types of teams like Edwardsville,” said forward Aaron Martin (10), out with a broken foot.

Normal has been able to beat the lesser opponents like Richwoods (5-7-2), but they have struggled to defeat better teams like Edwardsville. Their next  test is against the Danville Vikings on Oct. 6.

“We played a terrible game,” Taeed Dismukes said. “It could have been better. It seems like we gave up after the second goal. We looked like we were playing a game of kickball out there instead of soccer. The best thing to do is learn from this, and get back to work on it.”

Normal has 4 more games schedules this season — 2 home and 2 away, finishing the season off in a Peoria Notre Dame Tournament on Oct. 15.

James Broach is a senior at NCHS, where he plays varsity tennis. He has worked for Normal Community's Inkspot for 3 years as a reporter. My biggest pet peeve when teachers don't dismiss students when the bell rings. A random fact about me is that I am the 4th James Broach. My great-grandfather was the very first James, my grandpa and dad are the 2nd and 3rd. If I won a million dollars I would go on a vacation to California.
