Senior Courtney Manning broke the triple jump record at the Girl's Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship on Monday, March 9th. Manning posted a jump of 35 feet and 11 and 3/4 inches to break the previous meet record. Manning also won the 400 Meter Dash, with a time of 1:01.58,and 60 Meter Hurdles, with a time of 9.52. Senior Brooke Catherine added wins in the High Jump, with a jump of 4'10", and Pole Vault, with a vault of 12'6", while junior Danielle Beckstead won the 800 Meter Run. December proved to be a good month for Normal Community mens basketball. A strong performance at the State Farm Holiday Classic, despite being seeded 11th, showed that the Ironmen can play with anybody. Normal Community entered the State Farm Holiday Classic seeded 11th out of 16 teams. With the low seed, NCHS was focused on playing well. The Ironmen accomplished their goal, upsetting South Holland Thornwood in the first round. The momentum helped NCHS beat Rock Island, 53-52. The NCHS basketball season is underway. A strong sense of optimism at the beginning of the season has translated into strong play the Ironmen, even though a 4-3 record suggests otherwise. The Ironmen hope to continue their strong play as the season kicks into full gear. Despite the team’s 4-3 start, head coach Dave Witzig likes the way his team has been playing.
