The Ironmen grapplers head into tonight’s Senior Night meet with a flawless 18-0 record, boasting the No. 16 ranking in Illinois. Under the spotlights of the Mrs. Kevin Yale Vernon Auditorium, Community will look to extend their dominant season as they host Olympia in a one-of-a-kind to honor the class of 2025.
A cornerstone of the Ironmen’s success is senior Caden Correll, who enters the night with a perfect 32-0 record and the No. 1 ranking in the state at 113 pounds. Correll, a two-time IHSA State medalist, has amassed 151 career wins, cementing his legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats.
Fellow senior Cole Gentsch, ranked sixth in his weight class, is 31-3 this season, adding to an already historic career. Gentsch, a two-time State qualifier, currently holds the school record for most career wins with 155, with 100 of the 126-pounder’s victories coming by pin.
The seniors aren’t alone in pushing past milestone moments with junior Jackson Soney earning his 100th career victory this season. With a 27-4 record, the 106-pound Soney is ranked 6th in the state.
Depth has been a key to the Iron’s success this season, with seven wrestlers boasting at least 25 wins. 157-pound junior Carter Mayes is 28-5 and standout freshmen Brayden Manning is 28-6 in the 132-pound class, performances that earned the wrestlers honorable mentions in the state rankings.
The 27-7 performance of senior Jaren Frankowiak and 25-9 record of junior Mason Caraway have added to the team’s dominant run.
Tonight’s meet features a unique format, as all matches occur one-at-a-time rather than the usual concurrent action across multiple mats. The setup, under the stage lights, allows fans the rare opportunity to focus on each wrestler’s performance.
The event begins at 4:45 p.m.
