John Green is an author from Indianapolis, Indiana, but grew up in Orlando, Florida.  As a young adult fiction writer, he typically writes love stories.  His books can easily make any person cry, and they are well worth reading.

The Fault in Our Stars is a book about two teenagers with terminal cancer that eventually fall in love.  It is a love story, yet a tragedy at the same time.  There are happy parts and many sad parts.  Green also has a way with words; many people quote his stories.

Paper Towns is a story about a boy and a girl that were next door neighbors and at one point they were best friends.  They drift apart as they grow older, but one night the girl (Margo) comes to the boy’s window and they reunite.  There is more to the story, which you will have to find out yourself.  It starts out with a tragedy to the two children, which immediately draws you in.

He often uses metaphors.  In The Fault in Our Stars, the boy (Augustus) always has a cigarette in his mouth, even though the cigarette is never lit.  By doing this, he is putting the “killing thing” between his teeth, but not giving it the power to kill.  Another metaphor he used was in the book Paper Towns.  He uses strings as a metaphor as what holds you together, and if they break, you fall apart.  Green’s use of metaphors make the book not as boring and relate to how many people are feeling.

Green has a couple of other books which include: Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines and Will Grayson, Will Grayson (this particular book was co-written with another author and is more of a humor based novel).  They are well worth reading, but you might shed a couple of tears.  In my opinion, the books completely consume you while reading.  They are fast reads and you will not be able to put them down.  He also has a Youtube channel called the “VlogBrothers”.
