Girls swim takes 2nd in Big 12 Conference; Sets sights on IHSA Sectionals

Girls swim claimed second in the Big 12 Conference Oct. 21, scoring 210 points between its two second-place relays and seven individual top three finishes.

The team trailed Champaign Central by 93 points and finished 14 points ahead of Normal West thanks to junior Kenna Malinowski’s two first-place freestyle finishes.

Malinowski completed the 100-yard freestyle in 55.10 and the 50-yard freestyle in 24.58, two seconds ahead of teammate Piper Lowder (’26).

Malinowski anchored two relays—the 200- (1.45.53) and 400-yard freestyle (3.51.10)—to score second alongside teammates Lowder, Ava Johnson (’24), and Lyndsey Hackman (’25).

Johnson and junior Alexis Plassman each secured second-place finishes of their own in the 500-yard freestyle (5.25.26) and 100-yard breaststroke (1.14.69), respectively.

Johnson and Hackman rounded out the team score with third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and individual medley.

Community competes next Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host the IHSA Sectionals. Diving events begin at 9 a.m. at Normal West.
