The Lady Iron volleyball team is 6-6 heading into Saturday’s Intercity tournament.

The team opened the season 2-3 in tournament play at the Plainfield North Invite, falling to Plainfield North (15-5) and Metamora (14-2) in two sets and Hinsdale Central (8-8) in three. Community defeated Marian Catholic (5-12) and Lincoln-Way West (6-8) in two sets at the Chicago-land tournament.

After a non-conference win over Moline, Community fell to Normal West (14-2) at home in two sets on Sep. 8. Community took West to 28 points in the first set before losing 25-17 in the second.

Community went 2-1 when they returned to tournament action Sep. 9, falling to 3rd ranked Lyons Township (16-3) and 11th ranked Bolingbrook (18-3) in two sets and defeating the Sandburg Eagles.

The Lady Iron won their next two matches, winning 2-0 against Peoria Manual on Sep. 15 and Peoria High on Sep. 20 to improve to 2-1 in the Big 12 Conference.

The Lady Iron take on conference foe Danville (3-16) Thursday on the road before hosting the Intercity Tournament this Saturday.

Community finished 2nd in the tournament last season behind West, who finished 3rd in the 2021 3A state tournament.

The Lady Iron faces a challenge from a 6th ranked U-High Pioneers team and the 20th ranked Wildcats this weekend.
