Upcoming 2013 NCHS baseball season

The NCHS baseball team set the bar for themselves pretty high after last year’s stellar performance.  Last season, they made it to the Regional Championship, where they lost to Moline.  Their record at the end of the season was 17-20.

Our baseball team will have to fill in for those who graduated.  6 of the 9 starters were seniors last year, and are therefore no longer apart of the NCHS baseball team.  Of those 6, only 1 got a baseball scholarship.  Eric Fight received a scholarship from Heartland Community College.  Fight was a starting outfielder when he was with NCHS.

According to Coach Short, the varsity coach, there will not be any major changes to the team this year.  He did comment by saying they will need to improve their defensive performance this year.  Short stated that’s what was holding them back in the 2012 season.

Baseball tryouts are scheduled for Monday, February 25th.  The workouts will be held January 15th through February 21st.  Anyone wishing to tryout for the baseball team is strongly recommended to attend these workouts.  The first baseball game of the season will be held at NCHS on March 19th when they play Pekin.   Any fans wishing to go to the games this season can view their schedule at http://www.athletics2000.com/nchs/Sport.aspx?nav=s&SportGender=BASEBALL_B.
