The Illinois State Men’s Basketball team is off to a hot start in the early season. The Redbirds started 5-0 before falling to Northwestern for their first loss in the championship game of the South Padre Island Invitational.
Former ISU standout Dan Muller is now the head coach and the team seems to be transitioning smoothly. Aside from a thrilling overtime game against Drexel, the Redbirds have flown through their other games, beating their opponents by double-digit margins.
ISU plays a fast paced style and is highly ranked in many team offensive statistical categories, such as: points per game, assists per game and field goal percentage. These stats are due to the strong play of the whole team.
Kaza Keane is a freshman point guard who is running a team of veterans. Tyler Brown and Jackie Carmichael head an explosive senior class and are first and second on the team in scoring, respectively.
The ISU Redbirds are looking to make some noise, not only in the Missouri Valley Conference, but also on the national stage. Against fifth ranked Louisville, ISU could catch some people’s attention with a win in a big upcoming match up.
