The Inkspot, Community’s student news publication, has been recognized as one of 10 schools nationwide to receive the George H. Gallup Award from the Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society for High School Journalists. The award, part of the 2024 Quill and Scroll News Media Evaluations, was announced on Sept. 10.
Named after the founder of Quill and Scroll and the Gallup Poll, the Gallup Award is the organization’s highest honor. It recognizes student publications that demonstrate sustained excellence throughout the 2023-2024 academic year.
The honor recognizes the Inkspot for their exceptional service to the school and community, editorial campaigns and in-depth reporting on key issues.
Judges commended the publication for its high journalistic standards, stating: “Kudos to the Inkspot for generating a plethora of coverage, demonstrating diverse media skills, and maintaining a journalistically sound product for the Normal campus.”
They also highlighted the program’s commitment and “passion for the craft of sports journalism.”
The achievement came under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Abby Ruebush (’24), who was named to the Illinois All-State Journalism Team last April by the IJEA.
Ruebush was praised by the Quill and Scroll as “an exemplary Editor-in-Chief with multi-talented skills that will take [her] far in life.”
