Chess Club heading toward success

The Ironmen Chess Club players, coached by Mr. Rich, can hardly wait to begin their meets. Last year, they took twelve players to State and ranked 67th out of 125 teams. The whole team is looking forward to taking even more people to state this year. They have been practicing hard since September to battle against schools across Illinois.

Chess Club will be competing in six meets and three tournaments all-leading up to the State competition. Mr. Rich expressed to the club that U- High and Bloomington high schools are the club’s biggest competitors.  Now, there are about thirteen eager members of Chess Club waiting to start their meets. They plan on doing even better than last year.

When asked what the team and Mr. Rich were most looking forward to, “Improving at State!” was the answer Mr. Rich gave . The Chess Club has worked hard these past months and the whole team is waiting to see their hard work pay off.
