Community cruises to 5-0 win over Metamora in season opener

Community opened its season with a 5-0 victory over Metamora on March 18, with four different Ironmen finding the back of the net.

Campbell Damery struck first, capitalizing on a pass from Sarah Thompson to put the Ironmen ahead early.

The Iron controlled possession throughout the first half, pressuring Metamora’s defense and finding openings.

Ellee Hatcher doubled the lead before Dhruti Joshi added a third goal, giving Community a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The momentum carried into the second half as Community continued to apply offensive pressure.

Assisted by Elly McClelland, Cayla Bedeker extended the lead to 4-0.

Hatcher, already on the scoresheet, found the back of the net once more to secure her second goal of the night and seal the shutout victory.

Beyond their goals, Bedeker, Damery and Joshi each contributed with assists, rounding out a well-balanced offensive attack.

Community outshot Metamora 17-5, with goalkeepers Erica Elofson and Kellyn Kramer combining for five saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The win highlighted Community’s young talent, with sophomores Damery, Bedeker and Hatcher leading the offense. That depth will be crucial as the Ironmen adjust to playing without Kentucky-commit Rayna Powers, sidelined by an ACL injury in the basketball season finale.

The Iron look to improve to 2-0 when they travel to Morton High School Tuesday, March 25.
