Ironmen win Big 12 Conference for 3rd consecutive year

A three-peat of the Big 12 Conference Tournament never looked in doubt for the Ironmen as the wrestlers outscored the second-place finishers, Peoria Richwoods, 225-152 on Jan. 25.

Eight first-place finishes fueled the Ironmen’s conference victory, led by junior Gavin Capodice, who posted the tournament’s highest individual score with 24 points. Jackson Soney (22 points) and Caden Correll (21.5 points) also finished among the top five overall scorers, contributing to Community’s commanding win.

The Ironmen’s success on the mat was showcased across several weight classes, with Soney taking first place at 106 pounds, Correll securing the top spot at 113 pounds and Mason Soney winning at 120 pounds. Cole Gentsch claimed first place at 126 pounds, while Gavin Capodice dominated the 150-pound weight class.

In the heavier divisions, Victor Reyes won at 165 pounds, Jaren Frankowiak captured first at 175 pounds and Cole Kretsinger rounded out the champions with a first-place finish at 190 pounds.

Community also saw strong performances from Luke Eganhouse, who placed second at 144 pounds, and Mason Caraway, who took second at 215 pounds.

Brayden Manning and Ethan Cavallo each secured third-place finishes at 132 and 138 pounds, respectively.

The Ironmen’s depth proved key even without standout Carter Mayes, who did not compete.

Community looks to complete a perfect season in their final dual against the Lincoln Railersplitters on Jan. 29, entering the matchup with a 19-0 record in dual meets.
