The Iron look to replicate Tuesday’s success when they face an undefeated Peoria Notre Dame team tonight in a contest with significant conference implications.
Community improved to 7-1 on the season and 4-0 in Big 12 Conference play with a resounding 9-0 win over the Urbana Tigers on April 9.
From the whistle, Community controlled the game, holding the Tigers just one shot on goal.
Erica Elofson denied the attempt, recording her 30th save on the season.
Rayna Powers netted two goals in the victory, bringing the junior’s season total to 12.
Reese Anderson, Emma Reichert, Teagan Fahy, Sarah Thompson, Campbell Damery, Paige Pollitt and Sarah Talbott contributed to the team’s tally.
Anderson led the team with two assists in the contest, while Reichert, Damery, Elly McClelland, Mary Baker, Lauren Thomas, and Mya Corwin each set up scores.
Commnuity’s dominance extended beyond the scoresheet, with 24 shots on goal, highlighting the Iron’s relentless offensive pressure.
Urbana struggled to break through Community’s defense, managing just one shot on goal in the match.
When the Iron host Peoria Notre Dame, kicking-off at 6:15 p.m., they’ll look to avenge last year’s 2-0 loss to the Irish.
But the PND program poses a formidable foe.
Notre Dame enters the contest at 7-0, conceding just one goal while netting 35.
Defending 2A State Champions Chatham Glenwood have been the only team to succeed at getting a shot past Peoria’s Sydnee Wharton this season. The Irish rallied to win that contest 2-1, after trailing 1-0 in the second half.
The Iron took down Chatham Glenwood 1-0 on March 21 with Campbell Damery scoring for Community.
The reigning Big 12 Conference champions, Notre Dame, boast a 30-1 conference record since 2019, losing 1-0 to Normal West in 2022.
Community’s last victory against the Irish dates back to 2018; In 2021, the Iron shared the Big 12 Title with Notre Dame after the team’s head-to-head matchup ended in a 2-2 draw.
