The Red Sox’s third baseman Will Middlebrooks had the best offensive game of his career against the Toronto Blue Jays on April 7^th.  He went 4 for 5 with 3 homeruns and 4 RBIs.

Middlebrooks’s first 2 homeruns came off of the national league’s Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey.  It is very rare to see someone hit so well against a pitcher who has proven himself to be so good at the sport.  Nonetheless, Middlebrooks hit a 2 run homerun in the 1^st inning and then a solo shot in the 5^th off of Dickey.  By this point, it was obvious that Middlebrooks was playing the game of a lifetime.

By the 7^th inning, the Blue Jays had replaced Dickey and put in relief pitcher Dave Bush.  However, it seemed as though who was pitching was irrelevant.  Middlebrooks led off that inning and sent yet another homerun over the right field wall.  This marked the first 3-homerun game of his career.  Daniel Nava hit a homerun right after Middlebrooks had his third of the day, marking the first back-to-back homeruns of the season for the Red Sox.

In Middlebrooks’s final at bat in the 8^th, he fell just a few feet short of hitting a 4^th homerun as it was caught in the warning track.  Had he sent it over the fence, he would have been the 17^th person in the history of the sport to hit 4 homeruns in a single game.

Boston would go on to win the game with a score of 13-0.  They ended up with a total of 6 homeruns and broke team records for runs scored (13) and total hits (15).  Clearly, the Red Sox’s offense is a force to be reckoned with this season.
