Lady Iron Cross Country
Ali Ince (’24) and Olivia Hartke (’22) finished 5th and 13th respectively at the IHSA Cross Country Sectional on Oct. 30, qualifying for the IHSA State Meet at Peoria’s Detweiller Park on Nov. 6.
The Lady Iron finished 9th at Sectionals as a team, seven points shy of advancing to State.
The Ironmen football team defeated Blue Island Eisenhower 33-6 in the first round of the IHSA 7A playoffs on Friday, Oct. 29. Tommy Davis (’24), on his 16th birthday, rushed for three touchdowns in the win.
Despite muddy conditions, Community rushed for 298 yards in the victory, with Chris Taylor (’23) and Michael Coleman (’22) each rushing for a touchdown.
The Ironmen travel to Algonquin to face 19-seed Jacobs High School (8-2) Friday, Nov. 5.
Lady Iron Volleyball
After defeating Moline in two sets in the Sectional Semi-Final, Lady Iron volleyball took on the Edwardsville Tigers in Pekin on Wednesday, Nov. 3. Community’s season came to an end in the 2-0 Tigers shutout.
In the teams’ previous meeting on Nov. 3, 2016, five years ago to the day, the Lady Iron defeated the Tigers 2-0 to advance to Super Sectionals, then fell to Minooka 2-0.
Lady Iron Basketball
Girls basketball finalized their roster after tryouts took place Nov. 1 and 2. The team returns two starters from last year, Karleigh Creasey (’22) and Sophia Feeney (’23), losing graduates Mallory Oloffson and Madison Feeney and Ivie Juarez moved out of district.
The Lady Iron open the season Monday, Nov. 15, against Central Catholic in the first game of the Intercity Tournament at Bloomington High School.
