Banner night for NCHS: Community defeats Big 12 foe Richwoods

  • Senior Ethan Pogge’s shot is block in the first quarter with the teams tied at 7-7.

  • Pogge’s layup at the end of the 1st was the last time the team would trail. Community was down 11-13 going into the 2nd quarter.

  • Early in the 2nd quarter a Richwoods foul sends Zehr to the line trailing 11 – 13. Zehr would connect on both attempts tying the game. The senior scored 9 points on the night.

  • Normal Community’s defense and rebounding would eventually allow the team to slip away from the Richwoods Knights. At the half, the Ironmen lead 23-19.

  • Normal was able to shut down Richwoods’ leading scorer Dane Schlafley (3) who scored 9 of his 11 points in the 1st quarter, forcing other Richwoods players to contribute. Here Brylin Green scores a layup.

  • During halftime of Friday’s 55-36 win over Richwoods, the NCHS dance team lead the annual elementary schooler dance performance.

  • Principal Dave Bollmann congratulates Athletic Director Andy Turner. Turner, who recently announced he will be leaving the district, was honored during halftime.

  • Amongst the successes und Athletic Director Turner, a second consecutive State appearance for the varsity girls volleyball team.

  • During halftime, the athletic department celebrated is 2015 fall sport State success. Normal advanced to the 7A football quarter finals for the first time in school history.

  • Normal Community was also awarded the State Sportsmanship award.

  • Richwoods senior Kaelen Johnson (32) starts the 2nd half off by bringing the team within 2. Normal lead 23-21.

  • Junior Dakota Cremeens (5) came off the bench scoring 7 points in the 3rd quarter allowing the Ironmen to pull away from Richwoods.

  • Riley Rahuba (22) muscles through a defender. Rahuba would end the night as NCHS’s leading scorer with 13 points.

  • Rahuba finishes his shot to increase the Community 3rd quarter lead.

  • Ethan Pogge attempts a shot in the 3rd quarter.

  • Down 32-21. Brylin Green passes the ball through traffic for an assist. Senior Jim Leone defends. Leone finished the night with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.

  • Richwoods would bring the margin back to single digits by scoring off Green’s pass.

  • Up late in the 3rd quarter, Ben Walker fights for a lose ball.

  • Junior Jake McCaw passes the ball.

  • Down late, a Richwoods player attempts a 3. Community would go on to win their 5th straight game – 55-36.
