Successful boys senior night

The boys basketball team added to their winning streak to make it 19 straight wins with a 53-45 victory over the Urbana Tigers. This was the last game before the team started postseason play and it was also Senior Night. The student section was the strongest it has been all year to send the seniors out with a bang.

The Ironmen have six seniors on their roster: Callen Boddie, Marquet Newsome, Trevor Seibring, Randy Heideman, Luke Williams, and Logan Kimmel. Because only five players play at a time, five of the six seniors started on Friday night, usual starter, Trevor Seibring was the one to start on the bench. Seibring promptly checked into the game shortly after the tip off and led the team with 13 points. Every senior scored on Senior Night.

The Ironmen got off to a quick start behind sophomore Tyler Seibring’s hot shooting, knocking down three triples in the first quarter. They kept Urbana at bay during the first quarter, leading 20-8 at the end of it. The two teams traded blows during the second quarter, both scoring 10 points, to go into halftime with a score of 30-18.

The second half of the game got a little too close for comfort before the Ironmen finally took control and finished Urbana off. The Tigers outscored the Ironmen in the third quarter cutting the lead to eight, with a score of 40-32. They made a tough push in the fourth quarter, getting within three points of the Ironmen, but couldn’t take the lead. The Ironmen ended up matching the Tigers scores in the fourth quarter, and winning by eight points, 53-45. The Ironmen now have record of 23-6.

It was certainly a special night for all of the senior basketball players and they are looking to make some more noise in upcoming postseason play.
