Chris Carpenter is arguably the best starting pitcher the St. Louis Cardinals have on their roster currently.  However, it has recently been released to the public that his pitching career could soon be coming to an end.

Carpenter has been struggling with nerve damage for the past few years.  It forced him to miss all but the tail end of the 2011 season, as well as the first half of the 2012 season.  According to USA Today, the injury causes him to feel numbness and tingling throughout his throwing arm, shoulder, and neck.  According to Science Daily, if nerve damage gets severe enough it could lead to paralysis and other long-term conditions.

On February 5^th, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak made the announcement that Carpenter will most likely not pitch in the 2013 season.  There is also a very good chance he will be done pitching for the rest of his career.  Cardinal fans can only hope Carpenter’s condition will improve.
